With this foundation we had held a seminar for kindergarten tutors in March, and a workshop for teachers of Ukrainian Jewish schools is being prepared.
The academical director of the Yiddish Center at the World Jewish Congress, Dr. Mordehay Yushkovsky welcomed the audience in National Museum of Literature, highlighting an exhibition of editions of Sholem-Aleychem's works in different languages and paintings by young artists, dedicated to the anniversary.
Dr. Yushkovsky also delivered a talk on the life and creative work of Sholem-Aleychem, who was born in 1859 as Sholem Rabinovich in the town of Pereyaslav, not far from the Ukrainian capital. He referred to some little-known aspects of the writer' biography, his Zionist convictions.
Ukrainian Culture Minister, Israeli ambassador, Vice-President of the Academy of Sciences, classics of Ukrainian literature, leaders of the local Jewish community attended the forum.
