The academical director of the Yiddish Center at the World Jewish Congress, Dr. Mordehay Yushkovsky, presented two lectures.
The first one, "Sholom Aleichem - unsurpassed classic" (to the 100th anniversary of the death of the great writer) has been actively discussed in the Russian-speaking Jewish forums on the Internet. This lecture listed all the main motives in the creation of the classic writer, especially its subjects and language, and most importantly - his talent to make the reader laugh through tears and up to tears.
The second lecture, "Dilemmas and conflicts in a Jewish family in the light of Yiddish literature", was also held in a crowded room. It touched such deep problems of a Jewish family as: the status of women, the issue of agunot, relations between the sexes, between parents and children, between generations in the family - and it's all through the historical processes in Jewish society.
